Applying for the Grant

More Information

Important information you should read before applying

applicants must be at least 18 years of age on the date of entering into the eligible transaction. (The Commissioner may consider an exemption from this requirement in certain circumstances)
only one application will be accepted for each eligible transaction, regardless of the number of applicants, and only one grant is payable per application
all persons who have a relevant interest in the home on completion of the eligible transaction must complete the application form for the Grant.
you must lodge your application within one year after the transaction has been completed, or your application will be refused. (The Commissioner may extend this date in certain cirumstances)
you must carefully consider the correctness of the information you provide to the Commissioner as there are significant penalties for providing false or misleading information

Obtaining and lodging your application form

All applicants must complete an application form which includes the Age Restriction/Disqualifying Arrangements/Residency Requirements addendum.

The Commissioner will not accept applications that are not signed by the applicant and witnessed.

Application forms are available from an approved agent.

Forms are also available at our offices situated in Brisbane, Cairns, Rockhampton and Townsville.

If you are applying for finance through an approved agent your institution can lodge your application or you can lodge it directly with OSR.

Check your eligibility first before you apply as there are conditions you must meet.

Requests to provide additional information

The Commissioner may ask you to provide additional information in order to make a decision about whether or not you are eligible for the Grant.

In these circumstances, your application will not be progressed until the information is provided.

Important timing issues to consider

In most cases, you must meet the eligibility criteria at the time the application is made.

An application for a grant is made on the date the completed application is received by the Commissioner or an agent of the Commissioner.

There are some exceptions mentioned within FHOG 11.1 ('when must the eligibility criteria be satisfied'). These can be located in point 2.
