Eligibility criteria for subsidised diesel

As of 1 June 2006, the Queensland Government's Fuel Subsidy of 8.354 cents per litre has been extended to subsidise diesel used in certain equipment type vehicles that travel on a public road.

Eligibility for subsidised diesel is now based on vehicle registration type and use. Previously, eligibility was based on vehicle design and use.

To be eligible for the Subsidy, a vehicle must meet the standard regulations for registration under the Transport Operations (Road Use Management) Act 1995 and the diesel used in the vehicle must be for travel on a public road.

The new eligibility criteria will now allow operators of equipment type vehicles, such as: concrete pumping trucks, mobile cranes, elevating work platforms, truck based drillers, truck based street sweepers etc., to receive the Subsidy for diesel used when travelling on a public road. Previously these types of vehicles were not eligible for the Subsidy because of their design.

Diesel used in a vehicle that is conditionally registered, or of a kind that would be eligible for conditional registration in Queensland, is not eligible for the Subsidy.  Further information regarding conditional registration, including examples of conditionally registered vehicles, is available on Queensland Transport's website or by calling 13 23 80.

Diesel engine road vehicle - Definition prior to 1 June 2006 (for diesel purchased prior to this date)

A diesel engine road vehicle is a vehicle that has a diesel engine and is designed solely or principally for transporting persons, goods or animals by road.
