David Smith is the current Commissioner of State Revenue and Executive Director of the Office of State Revenue. He has held this position since December 2006.

As well as his State Revenue role, David is also responsible for the Commonwealth Taxes Unit within Treasury which oversees the Goods and Services Tax (GST) and Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT) activities.
Before becoming the Commissioner of State Revenue, he held the positions of:
- Assistant Under Treasurer, Fiscal Strategy
- Assistant Under Treasurer responsible for Education and Innovation, Economic Policy and Inter-Governmental Relations
- Government Statistician for Queensland.
David Smith also has a Bachelor of Economics degree.
