Standard Business Reporting

You are now able to report to government directly from your financial, accounting or payroll system.

Standard Business Reporting (SBR) is a multi-agency initiative led by Commonwealth Treasury that can simplify business-to-government reporting. You can lodge your Queensland payroll tax returns using SBR.

How does it work?

SBR offers a streamlined approach to the reporting requirements of participating government agencies in Australia. It provides a direct electronic connection between your accounting software and participating agencies’ information systems.

Much of the information held in your everyday business accounting software will be used to pre-fill various forms that you can check for accuracy, edit and finalise before lodging electronically. For example, if you pay payroll tax in more than one state, you will be able to complete and lodge all your returns at the same time.

What will you need before you lodge?

You will need an AUSkey to lodge with us through SBR.

AUSkey is a digital fingerprint used to authenticate your business details with government agencies through your SBR-enabled software. It means you only need one password and user ID for most business-to-government online reporting.

Visit www.auskey.abr.gov.au for more information.

Is your software SBR-enabled?

Providers have the choice of SBR-enabling their accounting, financial or payroll software.

You will need to check with your software provider to see which of their functions have been SBR-enabled.

Will SBR be compulsory?

No. SBR is optional, you will still be able to lodge using OSRconnect.

Why use SBR?

SBR can benefit you by:

  • using existing information in your business accounting software to automatically pre-fill forms
  • providing electronic lodgement of your returns directly from your accounting software
  • providing a single secure sign-on for all participating government agencies.
